Michael Olivier
The late Michael Olivier was a much-loved personality and writer in the food and wine world.
Michael Olivier grew up on a wine farm in the hills of Durbanville.
He trained at The London Cordon Bleu Cookery School and is a well known Cape food and wine commentator. Michael has worked in and managed such well-known places as Lanzerac Hotel in Stellenbosch and was Public Relations Manager for the top marque wine estate Boschendal.
Having run three restaurants; Paddagang in Tulbagh, The Burgundy in Hermanus and Parks in Constantia, and being featured in the national top ten restaurants, he is now a food and wine writer, published author and broadcaster.
You can follow his writings online at www.michaelolivier.co.za, where he also publishes his pod casts, talking about delicious wines.
Michael has three children, Sarah, Amy and Peter, and was married to Madeleine.
Sadly, Michael passed away peacefully in December 2023.
Michael Olivier was invited by the Voyager Wine Estate in Western Australia to prepare a ‘Cape Buffet’ for the duration of the Margaret River November Wine Festival. He and his wife, Madeleine, researched, deconstructed, and rebuilt the recipes, leaving them with a collection of essentially Cape Dishes, which he wanted to publish. Michael and Roelien Immelman, a very talented illustrative designer, agreed to go in a partnership on Friends. Food. Flavour., and including the recipes of friends, this book was born. The dishes are eclectic with Roelien’s superb illustrations and Mike Robinson’s sensitive photography.
